THE #1 QUESTION MUMS ASK

How L. fermentum CECT5716 helps with mastitis

L. fermentum CECT5716, the clinically studied probiotic strain in every capsule of TenderBiotics+, has been shown in published, randomised controlled research to help lower the incidence and recurrence of mastitis, and to significantly reduce the Staphylococcus bacteria linked to breast pain and infection during breastfeeding.

51%

Lower incidence of clinical mastitis over 16 weeks among nursing mothers who took 3 billion CFU/day of L. fermentum CECT5716, compared to placebo, in a randomised controlled trial (p=0.025).

352

Women were involved in a related trial comparing L. fermentum CECT5716 supplementation with standard antibiotic treatment for lactational mastitis; probiotic supplementation was found to be at least as effective in lowering Staphylococcus bacterial counts in breast milk.

7 days

In a separate trial on breastfeeding mothers with breast pain, Staphylococcus load in breast milk dropped significantly (p=0.045) and pain scores improved within the first week of supplementation.

WE SEE YOU, MAMA

Breastfeeding, at times, for some mothers, can be challenging

Between engorgement, tender or blocked ducts, the constant worry about supply, and a gut that's been through pregnancy, birth, and sleepless nights, your microbiome needs support too. TenderBiotics+ was created for exactly this season of motherhood.

MEET YOUR HERO INGREDIENTS

Not just any probiotic; it’s the breastfeeding probiotic

Most probiotics on the market were never studied in breastfeeding women. L. fermentum CECT5716 is different: it was originally isolated from human breast milk and is one of the most extensively researched probiotic strains for lactating mothers in published clinical literature.

✔️ Naturally found in breast milk, a strain your body already recognises

✔️ Studied in randomised controlled trials for breast comfort and breast milk microbiota

✔️ Recognised as safe by the FDA (GRAS) and holds EFSA Qualified Presumption of Safety status

✔️ Dosed at 3 billion CFU per serving, matching the dose used in published trials

Paired with prebiotic FOS

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are a plant-based prebiotic fibre that your body can't digest, but your beneficial gut bacteria can. FOS selectively feed bacteria such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, helping them multiply and outcompete less beneficial microbes. Together, probiotic + prebiotic form a "synbiotic", a more complete, self-reinforcing approach to microbiome support than a probiotic alone.

This is the same synbiotic principle used in TenderBiotics+: a clinically studied probiotic strain, nourished by the prebiotic fibre it needs to thrive.

GOOD TO KNOW

Currently or previously on antibiotics for mastitis? Pair them with TenderBiotics+

Antibiotics are sometimes medically necessary to clear a breast infection, but they don't distinguish between harmful bacteria and the beneficial bacteria living in your gut and breast milk microbiome. Antibiotic use is well documented to disrupt this balance, which is why healthcare professionals commonly recommend pairing a probiotic with an antibiotic course, and continuing it afterwards to help restore what was lost.

In a head-to-head clinical study of 352 breastfeeding women with infectious mastitis, those given L. fermentum CECT5716 achieved a greater reduction in breast milk bacterial counts and experienced lower recurrence of mastitis than the group treated with antibiotics alone. If you've been prescribed antibiotics, it's worth asking your doctor or IBCLC whether continuing (or starting) TenderBiotics+ alongside your treatment is right for you.

How to take them together

  • Space TenderBiotics+ at least 2 hours apart from your antibiotic dose, so the antibiotic doesn't immediately act on the live cultures.

  • Continue TenderBiotics+ daily through your antibiotic course, and for a few weeks after, to help support recolonisation of beneficial bacteria.

  • Always follow the specific guidance of your doctor or IBCLC, especially around dosage, timing and duration.

Antibiotic-associated disruption of beneficial bacteria and the benefit of probiotic co-administration during antibiotic courses are supported by Cochrane systematic reviews on probiotics for the prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and C. difficile infection. Mastitis-specific comparison: Arroyo R, et al. "Treatment of Infectious Mastitis during Lactation: Antibiotics versus Oral Administration of Lactobacilli Isolated from Breast Milk." Clinical Infectious Diseases. 2010;50(12):1551–1558. This information is educational and does not replace medical advice. TenderBiotics+ is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease — always consult your healthcare professional, particularly if you are taking antibiotics or any other medication.

HOW IT WORKS

Probiotics + prebiotics: a synbiotic built for lactation

Two ingredients, working together: one repopulates, the other nourishes.

Probiotic (L. fermentum CECT5716)

Live beneficial bacteria travel through the gut, where they can help rebalance the maternal microbiome, compete with less helpful bacteria for space and nutrients, and support the gut-breast axis that influences your breast milk microbiota.

Prebiotic (FOS)

FOS is a fermentable fibre that beneficial bacteria feed on. It is not digested in the stomach. As it's fermented in the colon, it helps beneficial strains like Bifidobacteria multiply and supports the production of short-chain fatty acids that nourish your gut lining.

Synbiotic synergy

By delivering the probiotic and its preferred food source together, TenderBiotics+ is designed to help the beneficial bacteria establish themselves more effectively than a probiotic taken alone.

A NOTE FROM THE FOUNDER

Why I created TenderBiotics+

With my second child, I had mastitis every three weeks, for almost the first five to six months of his life.

I remember crying every three weeks not just from the pain, but from not understanding why it kept happening. I'd barely recover from one bout before the next one arrived, like clockwork. In that short stretch of time, I went through three rounds of antibiotics. What I didn't realise then was that each round wasn't only clearing an infection; it was also affecting my gut health, something nobody had warned me about.

"I didn't know it had a name. I just knew I was crying every three weeks."

It was only much later that I learned what I'd actually been dealing with wasn't textbook mastitis every single time; it was subclinical mastitis: a lower-grade, easily overlooked form of ductal inflammation, where bacteria quietly build up and narrow the milk ducts. Because the underlying cause is never fully resolved, it just keeps resurfacing.

And the underlying cause, in my case? My son's latch. Looking back, it was never quite right, and it turned out he had a tongue tie that had been missed. Nobody flagged it. I was simply told to "watch for the fever" and given antibiotics each time it flared up, treating the infection, over and over, but never the root cause.

This is exactly why IBCLC support matters so much. A good IBCLC doesn't just treat the current bout of pain or fever; she looks at the whole picture: your baby's latch, their oral function, positioning, feeding pattern, and yes, things like tongue tie that get missed all too easily in a quick postnatal check. If I'd had that kind of support earlier, I believe those five to six months could have looked very different.

TenderBiotics+ was born out of that season of my life. I created it for every mother who is doing everything right and still finds herself crying on the bathroom floor, wondering why her body keeps fighting her. It's built around a probiotic strain that's actually been studied in breastfeeding women, paired with the prebiotic fibre it needs to thrive, formulated to help support your gut and breast microbiome, especially through the rounds of antibiotics so many of us end up needing and recurring mastitis. It's the support I wish I'd had.

And now, I hope TenderBiotics+ will help you in your personal breastfeeding journey!

Eliza
